Know More About the Polyester Resin
Polyester resin is broadly known as high-density polyester fiber. It is also referred to as fine polyester or super fine polyester. It is highly refined polyester fiber which is mixed with resins to produce different densities. These resins are used for a variety of applications including clothing, plastic bottles, polyester thread, polystyrene and rubber pellets. Polyester resin is generally made by combining resins and cements having similar properties. The resulting product is a high-quality textile that can be woven into cloth, pads, insulation, draperies and a myriad of other uses.
Polyester resin has its advantages over fiberglass, vinyl and aluminum because of its superior chemical and mechanical properties. It combines ease of manufacturing with a long shelf life and low cost of replacement. Polyester resin is also resistant to ozone and most commonly found in natural gas, diesel fuel, petroleum-based plastics, rubber and polyurethane foam. There are some polyester resin products that are UV resistant and some have an epoxy cure time of up to 40 mi.
The major chemical reaction that occurs in polyester resin production is a reaction between the resins and the amino acids uranine and guanidine hydrochloride. This polymerization of amino acids takes place during the curing process and results in the production of the desirable side reactions such as the development of cross-links, diming of the fiber structure and the enhancement of texture, color and surface hardening. These cross-links and diming bring about both strength and durability of the finished product.
